Production imminent at new Congolese plant

21 June 2017

Cement from Dangote’s new cement plant in the Republic of Congo is expected by July, according to Ganapathy Bala, Director of Operations at Dangote Cement Congo SA.

Speaking to local reporters at the plant, Bala said that work on the plant had been completed and that the company was in the process of test-running the plant.

With a capacity of 1.5 million tpy, the plant dwarfs current cement plants in the country, the largest of which – operated by CIMAF – boasts capacity of just 0.5 million tpy. Sonocc and Forspal also run smaller plants. It will more than double current capacity from 1.05 million tpy to 2.55 million tpy.

Dangote has invested US$300 million in the new plant, which is located in Mfila, on the outskirts of Congo’s capital, Brazzaville. Construction provided 1600 jobs, while the company said it was targeting employment of 650 during operation of the plant.
