Dangote Group to become largest producer of cement, oil and gas in Africa

26 April 2016

“The only way we can help the continent is to be self-sufficient and also export. What we have been able to achieve is that in the next two years, Nigeria will be the highest exporter of cement,” says Aliko Dangote.

Dangote, who revealed this while receiving the The Guardian Man of The Year 2015 award in Lagos, also said the Dangote group was investing in critical sectors of the economy where Nigeria isn’t doing well.

He further stated that the company is investing in an oil refinery that has a production capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, thus making it the largest producer of petroleum products in Africa.

“We will be the largest producer of petrochemicals in Africa,” the billionaire said.
Dangote also said that for Nigeria to grow, the problem of gas production and its distribution must be sorted out, noting that Dangote Group’s subsea gas pipeline contains 3 billion stock of gas.

Of the Guardian award, Dangote said it was the most important he had ever received both domestically and internationally.
“The reason why the Guardian award is the most important is because it is rare for people to be appreciated at home,” Dangote added.
