Prime Minister Anastase MUREKEZI officially opened CIMERWA’s new state-of-the-art Bugarama plant on 18 August. He was joined by other guests of honour including PPC Chairman Bheki Sibiya.
CIMERWA has been in operation for over 30 years in the region, with its decommissioned plant providing a maximum output of 100,000 tons of cement per year. Its advanced new facility has been designed in line with global best practice to ensure technologically efficient operation, supplying Rwanda and her neighbours with up to 600,000 tons of quality concrete each year.
In line with its strategy to expand its African footprint, PPC Ltd first aligned with CIMERWA as a majority stakeholder in 2013. It has added significant expertise to the project, including through an extensive skills transfer programme incorporating specialised engineering, project and environmental management, health and safety management, and logistics and operations management, among others.
Speaking at the event, Busisiwe Legodi, CEO: CIMERWA, said that the company was looking forward to supplying both local and international customers with competitively-priced, high-quality products that will increase infrastructural capacity across Rwanda and the continent. “This will be achieved by providing a comprehensive product portfolio that includes both 32.5 and 42.5 class cement, for general purpose and major construction works, respectively.”
