A leading cement manufacturer in Sierra Leone has warned of the danger of a cement shortage in the country which it blamed on the Ebola epidemic.
Leocem Sierra Leone Limited said on Friday that increased concern by shippers caused by the ongoing Ebola epidemic meant that fewer cargo ships were coming to Freetown.
Materials needed to manufacture and package the cement would be in short supply and Leocem says shippers have also increased shipping fees
Already, the construction industry had complained about a price rise for a bag of cement, currently at the official price of 42,000 leones ($10).
The company said it will be making limited delivery of cement to its distributors between October 21 and 31, but promises normal distribution by the beginning of November.
