Mott MacDonald is providing construction and operational monitoring, environmental assessments and water compliance auditing as technical advisor to lenders, Nedbank Capital and the Bank of China, for the new Mamba Cement plant in South Africa. The consultancy’s previous services led to a successful financial close in March 2014.
The R1.8 billion Mamba Cement plant will be located at an established limestone deposit near Northam in Limpopo province. It will have a capacity of over 1 million tpa and produce and sell cement into the blended cements, readymix and construction industries across South Africa. An onsite waste heat recovery system can generate 25% of the power required to operate the plant.
Jim Grundy, Mott MacDonald’s project director, said: “Mott MacDonald’s strategy has been developed, tried and tested on infrastructure and industrial projects over many years. Our experts are able to deliver bespoke advisory services to lenders anywhere in the world, covering the full range of technical, commercial, environmental and social due diligence across a large number of sectors.”
Construction of the new cement plant is expected to be completed by early 2016.
