Kenya: City Hall sets aside Sh6.2 Billion for roads construction

The Nairobi County Government has set aside Sh6.2 billion during the 2016/2017 financial year for the construction, rehabilitation and maintenance of roads.

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero says this shows commitment by City Hall towards effective service delivery to residents within the county.
The Governor was speaking following a ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of the 13-km Muthioya road in Kabiru ward in Dagoretti.

His deputy Jonathan Mueke also launched the 288-metre Kapiti Road whose rehabilitation cost is Sh17million and pointed out that it was meant to restore Nairobi as the city of choice after many years of neglect.
“Better transport, housing and infrastructure remain a key pillar among the Seven Grand Promises we made to Nairobi in 2013.

This is not only because it is a key ingredient for the success of a competitive modern economy, but also because well-designed infrastructure investment raises economic growth, productivity and property values, while providing significant positive spillovers,” he stated.

“To actualise these, we launched the Smart Roads Concept covering over thirty estates in Nairobi to address the many years of neglect of Estate Roads.

Nairobi County government recently introduced a new Transport Plan which will help provide a modern, integrated transport system that outlines schemes for upgraded city roads, effective traffic management, a commuter rail network, public bus transit system and a properly regulated matatu sector.
