AfriSam establishes readymix plant in Saldanha Bay IDZ

09 June 2014

Serving its burgeoning customer base has led AfriSam to establish a readymix cement plant in the Saldanha Bay industrial development zone (IDZ).

The facility has a production capacity of 70 m³/h and comprises offices, storage silos for cement and aggregates, as well as delivery and dispatch areas to accommodate the company’s readymix delivery trucks.

The plant will service the entire Saldanha Bay municipal area, including St Helena, Saldanha Bay, Langebaan, Paternoster, Jacobsbaai, Vredenburg and Hopefield.

Cornelius Bevin, AfriSam building construction materials Cape territory manager, said the company had planned to increase its footprint in the region and was encouraged by the announcement of contracts to build the Langebaan Hospital, further extensive development of Saldanha’s IDZ and widening the port at Saldanha Bay.

“Not only will each of these projects require large amounts of readymix, they will also prompt increased development of supporting infrastructure,” he said. “This would typically include roads, schools, clinics, sewage systems and housing.”
