Gauteng Human Settlements MEC Jacob Mamabolo will on Monday launch a ward-based housing audit to physically verify all incomplete and blocked housing projects across Gauteng.
The aim of the verification audit is to find out what remedial actions can be taken to ensure the projects are completed.
The Department of Human Settlements said abandoned and unattended projects have consistently been a cause for concern among thousands of Gauteng citizens.
“With the growing housing need, it is only prudent to document these, find remedies for completion, and assure the people of Gauteng that government is addressing the housing challenges.”
To kick-start the audit process, MEC Mamabolo will hand over an incomplete project in Alexandra Ext 31 to a contractor who will wrap up the project and hand it over back to the department for allocations to beneficiaries.
