Botswana’s Morupule Coal Mine has broken into the South African market after winning a contract to supply cement producer PPC Slurry with washed coal for a three-year period.
The tender award comes after a year of concerted efforts and followed the submission of a bid by MCM in December 2013.
Tumelo Molefhe, MCM sales and marketing manager, said that the long-term vision of both PPC and MCM was to establish a strategic partnership to supply other cement manufacturing plants in South Africa and to also support their expansion into other Southern and Central African countries.
