Gauteng-based Chemplus, established in 1989, continues to drive the concept of environment-friendly products, including that of its mould release agents, reveals sales manager Tom Connell.
Chemplus manufactures and supplies processed and specialised chemicals and custom-made apparatus or process machinery for varied industries, including bakery, wire-drawing, concrete moulding, galvanizing, general engineering, granite and marble.
A plethora of products are supplied in these industries including fluxes, degreasers, passivators, inhibitors, mould release media, lubricants, metal protectors and rust-convertors, coolants for metal working, lubricant carriers, in-line precision automatic spray units, bulk fluid storage design and manufacture, automatic pump stations.
Connell says that the company’s environment-friendly consciousness, not only for its mould release agents, is maintained by its careful selection of raw materials across its product range, as well as the company’s investment in research and development (R&D).
For the past twenty years, R&D has underpinned the company’s philosophy, with a strong team of chemists continuing to innovate on the new product development side.
Echoing similar sentiments, marketing manager Dino Ligeris, explains that the ‘green’ trend in the South African construction industry continues to gain momentum, underpinned by the increasing demand for environmentally friendly products. As an example, he refers to the specifications for products required for power utility Eskom for its Medupi power station under construction in Limpopo.
“It is a matter of time before we see the specification for green products becoming legislation,” adds Connell.
The company has also seen an increase in requests from clients for greener products. “People are becoming proactive to trends across various industries both locally and internationally and are starting to make changes,” says Ligeris.
Chemplus has an onsite laboratory, where products can be specified to clients’ requirements and also provides technical support.
Meanwhile, Connell explains that business is experiencing steady growth, with most growth being experienced in the construction sector, particularly for new product development.
The company manufactures a wide range of concrete mould release agents, ranging from conventional release agents (which are similar to those provided by its competitors) to their specially developed environmentally friendly release agent, Eezmold CB. This innovative product is considerably lower in toxicity in comparison to conventional release agents and all of its components are 100% biodegradable. There is no equivalent to Eezmold CB on the market.
