Construction on R1bn Limpopo mall commences

05 August 2015

Construction on the R1-billion, 50,000-m2 Thavhani Mall, in Thohoyandou, Limpopo, has commenced.

The mall will be the anchor and catalyst development within a new, bigger commercial development node on a 27-ha site in the Thulamela municipality, dubbed Thavhani City.

This mega-development forms part of the Thulamela municipality’s vision of securing city status by 2030.
The mall will be built on 12 ha of the site, which is in a prime location at the intersection of the R524 road to Louis Trichardt and the road to Sibasa.

“Most of the labour involved in the construction of Thavhani Mall will be sourced from the local community. Local jobs will also be prioritised when the mall opens,” joint developer Thavhani Property Investments said in a statement.

The double-storey mall was already 75% let with major chain stores as confirmed anchors.
Future developments include drive-through restaurants, motor dealerships, an office park, big-box retail and other commercial developments. The mall is scheduled to open in 2017.
