Contan Buckets & Pails

27 March 2017

Contan will showcase its new PolyCan range of plastic containers specially designed for solvent based products, when it exhibits at this year’s African Construction and Totally Concrete Expo, taking place at Gallagher Convention Centre, Johannesburg in May. This unique ‘industry-first’ technology enables solvent-based paint and coatings to be packaged in plastic containers with barrier protection to prevent permeation and panelling.

Karl Lambrecht, Chief Executive for Contan says, “After extensive development and rigorous testing, we look forward to sharing this innovation with our customers. Our new PolyCan range for solvent based products is available in 1L and 5L sizes. Visit us on stand 417 at the African Construction Expo to explore the potential for your business.”Paint manufacturers and their consumers will appreciate the PolyCan’s secure tamper-evident lid. Tamper-evidence can be broken by hand and the lid removed without the need for a screwdriver. This convenient tool-free opening and resealing makes painting easier for a wider spectrum of consumers and prevents mess or injury whilst struggling to remove the lid.

The 5L PolyCan has a convenient carry handle, which is ultrasonically welded onto the bucket instead of piercing a hole through the side wall to push the handle in. This maintains maximum strength and prevents leaking. The specially welded handle is highly robust and results in a neat flush finish with no protrusions inside.

Under development is a patented, tapered version of the 5L PolyCan which enables nesting in transit. These tapered PolyCans are on average almost three times more space-efficient than traditional non-nesting alternatives. Lambrecht explains, “Nesting five litre paint cans are a first for the paint industry and we are confident that this solution will bring manufacturers significant savings and reduce their carbon footprint.”

Contan offers superior quality decoration at an economical price through in-mould labelling (IML). Designs with photo quality images and matt, metallic or even textured finishes are all possible; as well as offset print in six colours. Transparent buckets are also possible for viewing windows to gauge paint levels without having to open the container. Lambrecht concludes, “Contan is committed to producer responsibility, paying voluntary raw material leviestowards reducing packaging waste to landfill, and to drive recycling initiatives which create jobs and protect our environment”.
