Dubai: green concrete to be mandatory

30 November 2015

Due to mandated changes from the Municipality in April 2015, green concrete is now compulsory for all developers to use and will completely replace

conventional concrete in UAE within two years.

Considering construction efficiency, green concrete utilises recycled material and has a low water demand, which makes it both easier and cheaper to manufacture. Since the UAE is widely known to have the highest footprints in the world, green concrete can also reduce carbon footprints.

According to Salim Mohammad Zid, the senior building services engineer of Dubai Municipality, they’re constantly upgrading the rules and regulations to stay ahead for both greener buildings and the future sustainable cities. Dubai Municipality aims to make Dubai a world-leading green economy by implementing educational programmes and campaigns to build environmental awareness.
