Ethiopia to build 11 public universities

The Ethiopia Ministry of Education has announced plans to construct 11 public universities, commencing in the coming fiscal year. This will see the country have 42 such institutions

, increasing enrollment capacity to 60,000.

The projects are scheduled for completion within two years.

Minister Dr. Kaba Urgessa said the institutions will be constructed in Amhara, Oromia, and Southern Nations Nationalities states. Designs for the buildings were being worked on by Urgessa, who is also conducting surveys and selecting suitable areas for construction.

The country would also give priority to science studies while undertaking the new construction project. It would also train lecturers for the institutions, beginning in the next academic year.
