How to build affordable housing with 30% less in materials consumption

12 May 2017

Elematic, a world-leading manufacturer of precast concrete plants and production lines for walls, floors, frames and foundations, is pleased to announce that the company will conduct a presentation on building technologies for affordable housing at the African Construction and Totally Concrete Expos 2017 to be held in the Gallagher Convention Center, Johannesburg, South Africa.

Africa’s biggest gathering of construction professionals will get first-hand knowledge on how to build affordable housing with 30% less material consumption compared to traditional building methods.

The reality facing most developing cities in Africa is that rapid population growth makes it a big challenge to keep up with the demand for good quality housing, services and infrastructure. Elematic’s Area Director Curt Lindroth will give a presentation in the technical training workshop explaining how prefabrication can help meeting the typical demands faced by builders in rapidly expanding cities, such as cost pressure, solid quality of housing and needs for safe work sites and sustainable buildings.

Elematic experts will be on hand at stand no. 125 to answer questions about how to build lively neighborhoods with affordable, high-quality apartments using prefabrication – precast concrete – as the building method.

The precast technology is suitable for building an apartment building, city block or entire neighborhood supporting the use of local raw materials and local workers. It also saves a lot in material consumption because up to 30% less steel, cement and concrete are needed.

Free technical workshop: How can Africa benefit from prefabrication in building construction

Elematic is proud to participate in the technical training workshop, to be held on workshop day 2 on 24 May. In the indoor session at area 2, Curt Lindroth, the Area Director of Elematic will speak about the use of prefabrication in affordable housing projects.

Precast technology and design open a myriad of possibilities for housing and the planning of urban environments, and make it possible to manage even mega-housing projects with highly competitive cost structures and schedules.

In his presentation, he will go deeper into the benefits of prefabricated technology, covering subjects such as savings in raw materials, efficiency in building and apartment layouts and the basics of setting up a precast concrete factory, and more. In addition to these benefits, prefabricated technologies provide solutions for sustainable, environmentally friendly ways of working which are no longer viable using traditional building methods.
