There are only a few days to go before the premiere of IFAT Environmental Technology Forum Africa, taking place from September 15 to 18, 2015 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre. The final stages of preparations are now being made by both exhibitors and visitors to ensure they get the most out of the premiere of this event. All the participants will be eager to view the finalized version of the supporting program—now available online.

In focus: Water and mining

A special focus in the supporting program is on mining, a sector that is of particular importance for the Southern African region. A session entitled “From Mining to Urban Mining”, organized in cooperation with the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy and the German RE Tech Partnership, Recycling & Waste Management, and examines the facts surrounding the treatment of waste and on options for recovering raw materials.

Another highlight in the program, organized in cooperation with South African partners, poses the question “Why is recycling better than mining?”—and puts forward answers. Among the speakers in this session is a representative from the National Recycling Forum. On the subject of water, a number of sessions have been organized: The session on “Water and Energy Efficiency: Opportunities for Municipalities and Waste Water Treatment Plants” is targeted in particular at local authorities and plant operators. The presenter is the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).

A representative from the Department of Water and Sanitation will discuss this. Full details of the supporting program, including information on the topics, partners, and speakers, are available online.
