Immense increase of engineering jobs in South Africa

07 August 2015

The number of engineering jobs advertised year-on-year in South Africa has increased by 36%, research from specialist recruitment consultancy Robert Walters has found.

Figures from the latest annual Robert Walters South African Jobs Index, which charted vacancy numbers posted to online platforms, revealed that the demand for professionals in South Africa had also grown compared with the first quarter of this year, with the overall number of vacancies up 4% over this period.

Engineering was the largest sector by volume of jobs advertised for the third quarter running, while year-on-year, advertised engineering and natural resources roles combined increased by 57% across South Africa, the study found.

“The engineering recruitment market has seen positive growth, despite numerous economic challenges and a significant lack of skills. Skilled positions such as supply chain managers, technical engineers and technical sales specialists are in high demand,” Robert Walters country manager Nic Sephton-Poultney said.
