Kenya: Mombasa airport to get US$14.8m supermarket complex

08 July 2014

The Kenya Airports Authority has set up plans to construct a US$14.8m complex at the Moi International Airport in Mombasa.

Greenhills Investment, a Kenyan firm has been tasked with execution of this project. KAA’s general manager for marketing and business development, Bernard Mogambi indicated that the project will be carried out under a public-private partnership with Greenhills.

The complex will be constructed on a five acre-piece of land and will house a supermarket, offices and a hotel. This comes at a time when the Airport, which is the second largest in the country, is being upgraded. The Passenger terminal building upgrades will enable the airport to handle 2.4 million passengers up from the current 1.5 million passengers per annum.

The complex is expected to serve travellers using the airport. The KAA is seeking measures to boost their revenue, which includes attracting investors to set up businesses on airport land.
