Kenya: Sh800 million road construction project kicks off

24 February 2016

The tarmacking of the 24-kilometre Ndurumo-Kibuline-Giaki-Miomponi road connecting Meru and Tharaka-Nithi counties has started.
The more than Sh800 million project is expected to be completed in the next 15 months.

Leaders who presided over the launch said it will increase revenue from the economic activities between the two counties.

Tharaka-Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki and North Imenti MP Rahim Dawood said the road project is a good indicator that the country is on course to achieving its stated infrastructural goals.

“We want to assure residents of this area that Jubilee is not like other governments. When a road project has started, it must be completed. The contractor is not going anywhere, he will stay on site until the road is complete,” Prof Kindiki said.

Mr Dawood said the road is a national project undertaken by the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA).
