Transport Principal Secretary John Mosonik has said that construction of 8,000 km of tarmac roads in Kenya is set to begin in a week to ease transportation of goods and passengers and boost the country’s economy.
He added that African Development Bank has funded for the implementation of the dual carriageway road. The PS also pointed out that the construction of the Dongo Kundu bypass was ongoing, adding that it would address the transport crisis at the Likoni channel.
“The Dongo Kundu bypass will be linked to the port’s second container terminal for eventual effective cargo delivery,” he said.
Kenya is currently enhancing their infrastructure.Projects include construction of terminal 1E and an almost complete runway at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, construction of Phase 1 of the second container terminal at the port which is expected to be completed by March next year and also construction of the Dongo Kundu bypass.
Other projects which will be commenced before long include the expansion of Kisumu and Eldoret airports so that they can accommodate large aircrafts.
