Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia says the government is on course to construct 10,000 kilometres of road as it seeks to achieve its pledge to offer world-class transport solutions in the country. Macharia pointed out that the government launched the ambitious project to rehabilitate and upgrade roads at county levels in order to ease transportation of goods and services.
The transport CS was speaking in Kiambu County as he flagged off four road projects estimated at Sh4.2 billion. “These projects will be in every county in Kenya. These projects will boost agriculture, tourism, trade and other economic activities and propel Kenya into African powerhouse,” he said. The 80-km project will be undertaken by H Young Contractors and will be supervised by Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA).
Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria asked the contractors to work together with other agencies to facilitate timely execution of the project. The Transport Ministry launched the annuity road financing programme that seeks to tarmac roads countrywide under two categories; low volumes in counties and major roads in towns. The Kiambu project is part of the 4,000 km of roads commissioned in January.
