Lafarge Africa Plc wins 2015 HSE award in Nigeria

For its high standards and commitment to health, safety of workers and the environment, Lafarge Africa Plc. has been awarded the best health, safety and environment (HSE) Practice in the Manufacturing sector at the Nigeria Safety Award for Excellence Hall of Fame 2015.

The Nigeria Safety Award for Excellence Hall of Fame (9Ja Safe Awards) is Nigeria’s first ever-independent award organised in recognition of outstanding Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) initiatives. It is aimed at celebrating organisations and people who actively make health, safety a cornerstone of their business performance.

Lafarge Africa Plc’s operations in Nigeria cover Ashaka Cement in Gombe State, Atlas Cement in Rivers State, UniCem in Cross River State and WAPCO in Ogun State, as well as Aggregates and Readymix Sites across the country.

Loren Zanin, MD Concrete & Aggregates Readymix, received the award on behalf of Peter Hoddinott, the Group MD/CEO, Lafarge Africa Plc.

He commended the organisers for raising the standard of health and safety in Nigeria through the initiative.
“With this award, the management board of Lafarge Africa Plc. has been given recognition because we are going in the right direction when it comes to health and safety, which shows we are committed to what we are doing. We urge all Nigerians never to stop thinking about health and safety at work, on the road and at home. Health and safety is 24 hours a day.”

According to the organisers of Nigeria Safety Award for Excellence Hall of Fame 2015, Lafarge Africa Plc. made exceptional and outstanding contribution in HSE towards national development, achieved ground-breaking innovations in HSE and also made outstanding contribution to its environment.
