Peter Hoddinott, the newly appointed Group MD of Lafarge Africa Plc, wants to provide low-cost houses for Nigerians, especially those on the lowest rung of the ladder.
Hoddinott, who superintends the second largest cement maker in Africa’s largest economy after Dangote, said he wants to help the housing deficit in the country, estimated at ±17 million by providing 40 m2 homes at $8000 (about N1.6 million).
“Our target is to produce a home of around 40 m2 for approximately $8000. The idea is that a family should be able to have some land, with access to water, sanitation and electricity, build 40 m2 with the idea of expanding into 80, into 120, into 160 square metres and for a long term,” Hoddonit said.
“It is something we develop all over the world. We are doing Mass Housing Schemes in Kano and Abuja. We also have Affordable Housing Schemes in Ogun, Ondo, Oyo, Osun, Lagos, Kwara and Cross River.
In 2016, we are looking at going into eight more states,” he added.
