To boost cement exports into the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Lafarge Zambia Plc, in partnership with Zambia Railways Limited (ZRL) and the Congolese Railways,
has commissioned the eighth state-of-art rail loading facility in Ndola.
The firm is projecting to load 400 tonnes of cement per week in 2016 and more in 2017.
Chief executive officer Emmanuel Rigaux said commissioning the facility is in line with the company’s strategy to continue being innovative and taking a lead in implementing Government policies that promote diversification in the cement industry.
“Increasing the share and value of new exports is a battle we have to fight together as a private sector in line with Government efforts and policies.
The company is also planning to multiply by four the volumes of 150,000 metric tonnes of annual exports to DRC, Malawi and Zimbabwe.
“We are railing far into Kasai as well as into Livingstone and have become the largest industrial user of rail in Zambia.
He said the firm is keen to contribute to reinforcing the country’s export capacity and also play an effective role in the new green economy.
