M&R exclude two board members from bridge collapse investigation

02 December 2015

Construction company Murray & Roberts (M&R) on Tuesday said board members Mahlape Sello and Royden Vice would be excluded from any discussion and documents relating to the investigation of the October collapse of a support structure of a pedestrian bridge being built over the M1 in Johannesburg.

Sello and Vice were directors of both M&R and Waco International. M&R was responsible for the construction of the pedestrian bridge, while equipment hire and industrial services business Waco had supplied forming, shoring and scaffolding to M&R for the project on a rental basis.

M&R said in a statement that excluding the two board members would eliminate any possible conflicts on the matter.
Sello had, meanwhile, stepped down from the Waco International board, but Vice continued to serve as a board member.

The company added that the cause or causes of the incident had not yet been established and that the investigation was expected to last a few months, as it was a complex matter. Edited by: Chanel de Bruyn
