Human Settlements Minister Lindiwe Sisulu will sign a service level agreement with the Eastern Cape Provincial Government to fast track housing delivery in Port Elizabeth.
The signing ceremony will be preceded by a two-day workshop for contractors at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Municipality.
“The developer’s workshop will outline a programmatic and institutional alignment, realign current programmes, initiatives and policies aimed at contractor or small medium and micro enterprise development and participation in response to the need to accelerate housing delivery within the metro,” the Ministry said.
The workshop commenced on Monday.
In April, Cabinet approved a package of R4.6 billion over the next three years to assist the metro and see the Housing Development Agency (HDA) becoming an implementing agent to speed up housing delivery over the next three years.
The project will entail the construction of 6000 houses in Port Elizabeth’s Bethelsdorp, another 7000 in Kayamandi, 2200 in Walmer and 491 houses in Chatty.
The funds will also be used to upgrade 15,700 residential sites and the construction of bulk service infrastructure.
These projects will further contribute to job creation in the metro.
