New airport terminal in Nigeria will boost service delivery

22 June 2016

Construction of a new airport terminal at Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) in Ikeja in Lagos is nearing completion and is expected to begin operation soon. Once completed and handed over to the government, the terminal will be capable of processing 30 million passengers – up from the current 15 million.

The Lagos airport terminal is among the four terminals that are currently under construction. The other three terminals include the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) in Kano, the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja and the Port Harcourt International Airport.

The MMIA at Ikeja near Lagos was built during the World War II. The international terminal was modelled after Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and is the main base for the Nigeria’s flag carrier airlines, Arik Air and Aero.
