The Cement Company of Northern Nigerian, Sokoto Cement, is reportedly planning to invest US$600 million to raise the capacity of its power plant from 12 MW to 16 MW. The current power availability is said to be insufficient when the cement plant is running at full capacity.
The contract for the plant has been awarded to China’s CBMI, which is also carrying out the construction of a new production line at the plant with a capacity of 1 million tpy of clinker.
This line is scheduled for completion by the end of next year and will increase capacity at the plant by 200%.
Sokoto Cement belongs to BUA Cement, which acquired the majority stake in the company in 2010 when it took over Damnaz Cement.
