Oman mosque breaks RMD Kwikform records

20 June 2014

RMD Kwikform is setting company records with the shoring towers for the US$64-m Sultan Qaboos Mosque, which is being built by Carillion Alawi in Nizwa, Oman.

It is the first building in Oman to combine Alshor Plus and Rapidshor equipment and has shoring towers reaching up to 43 m tall, to support the casting of the dome, concrete slabs and beams that make up the main areas. The scale of the project required RMD Kwikform to deliver over 1,200 t of equipment to the site.

A change in programme sequencing required both beams and slabs to be cast at the same time. Engineers from RMD Kwikform responded by designing an innovative solution to erect a run of Rapidshor shoring support inside the previously erected Alshor Plus birdcage.

The company has produced a video on the project: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rvumbl3wOww#t=116
