PPC handed over three houses to community members in Nellmapius, Tshwane this week in support of the ‘16 Days of Activism on No Violence against Women and Children’ campaign in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Human Settlements.
The Gauteng Department of Human Settlements, through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSI) Programme, participates annually in this international campaign. The campaign entails adopting child-headed households, vulnerable women, the elderly as well as people living with disabilities across Gauteng.
Morongwe Mashoko, Director, Corporate Communications at the Gauteng Department of Human Settlements said, “The role of the Department is to engage and mobilise sponsors to help improve the lives of the less fortunate. PPC has committed to building four houses; three have been handed over and one will be handed over early in 2015.”
PPC Group CSI Manager, Francie Shonhiwa added, “PPC is very proud to contribute to developing communities. We strive to create an opportunity for communities to live in a decent permanent structure with running water, electricity and sewerage.”
Shonhiwa believes this initiative is a welcome gesture, made possible through successful collaborations between the public and private sectors.
The other sponsors of the Department’s CSI Programme include Urban Dynamics and Tawana Business Projects who constructed the houses, and Makole Properties, who sponsored the electrical work.
Since the inception of this initiative in 2011 the Department has mobilised sponsors to build 20 houses and refurbish 12 houses for the destitute households. In January 2015, 10 houses will be completed, bringing the total to 42 families assisted through this initiative.
