The Dar es Salaam Regional Road Board has earmarked 343bn/-for road construction and maintenance projects for the 2016/17 fiscal year, being an additional of 266bn/- compared to the previous budget.
Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner (RC), Saidi Meck Sadiki, said that the region will start implementing the Dar es Salaam Metropolitan Development Programme (DMDP) in the next financial year.
DMDP is geared towards improving urban services and institutional capacity in the Dar es Salaam metropolitan area, and to facilitate potential emergency response.
Sadiki directed the city’s municipalities to allocate funds to compensate residents forced to vacate the project areas.
As for road construction and repair projects, Sadiki, pointed out that Ilala municipality had set aside 66bn/- for the purpose while Kinondoni municipality had allocated 78bn/- and Temeke municipality had earmarked 68bn/-.
