The National Road Fund Agency (NRFA) of Zambia has allocated US$710mn for road infrastructure development and services for the 2015 financial year.
This will be used for on-going construction projects under the Link Zambia 8000 project, Pave 2000, Lusaka 400 and other road projects.
According to NFRA spokesperson Alphonsius Hamachila they would link implementation of Road Sector annual work plan and budget for 2015 with government’s policy to transform the country into a land-linked entity rather than the current land-locked one.
It was thus critical, given the importance of road infrastructure to the country’s economy.
The Link Zambia 8000 project aims at rehabilitating 2,290 kilometres of the road network. The first phase of the project was expected to cost US$1.5b and Phase II has been launched.
