Winners in the PG Bison 1.618 competition announced

On Wednesday 4th October, the PG Bison 1.618 Awards were held at the MESH Club in Rosebank’s Keyes Art Mile.

The fictional brief for 2017 tasked students with transforming an ailing building within one of Johannesburg’s key parks, into a vibrant gastronomic restaurant, with an appreciation and understanding of urban regeneration. The restaurant needed to create a unique and seamlessly linked indoor and outdoor experience for the patrons.

The winning students for 2017 are:

1st Place: Stephanus Petrus Diedericks from the University of the Free State.

Stephanuswon a trip of a lifetime for himself and his lecturer to the 2018 Furniture Fair in Milan, Italy.

2nd Place: Margaux Loubser, also from the University of the Free State.

Margaux won a trip to the 2018 Design Indaba in Cape Town, plus R3, 000 in cash.

3rd Place: Camrin Plaatjes from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

Camrin has won R10, 000 in cash.

All remaining finalists will receive a R2, 000 cash prize.

MD of Surface Innovations, Philip Roux emphasized that ‘’We want to create an opportunity for our up and coming designers to showcase their talents. We love seeing these young designers coming up through the education system, and this competition creates an incredible opportunity and stepping stone for their careers.”
