WorleyParsons completes N10 road upgrade for SANRAL

30 April 2015

WorleyParsons, one of South Africa’s largest engineering firms, has completed a contract awarded by the South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) to upgrade and widen a 25-km section of road between Cookhouse and Cradock from Baviaans River to Riet River on National Route 10 Section 3 in the Eastern Cape.

The road works included the construction of 15 large in-situ box culverts to cater for the stormwater overflow, and one cattle creep, the extension of several existing box culverts and the replacement of most of the existing pipe culverts. The Krom River Bridge was also widened.

WorleyParsons has also successfully delivered an upgrade to Section 4: Phases 1 and 2 of the N10 for SANRAL.

As part of WorleyParson’s commitment to localisation, 306 workers from nearby communities were employed on the project and the services of 21 SMME’s were utilised. SANRAL funded the training of these personnel that included first aid, roadside safety, traffic accommodation, bricklaying, computer skills, plastering, plumbing, painting, carpentry and SMME business training.
