19 November 2014

The Western Cape Minister of Finance Dr Ivan Meyer together with the Head of Urban and Rural Development from the Supreme Building Authority in the Bavarian State Ministry in Germany, Mr Stephan Linter, recently opened Bavaria’s “Energy-efficient Design and Construction Exhibition” in Cape Town.

The exhibition which was designed as a traveling exhibition has over the past two years been on display in cities such as Munich, Shandong, Weifang, Brussels, Moscow, St Pietersburg, Edinburgh and Vienna provides information on the key current aspects of energy-efficient construction.

“Part of the purpose of the exhibition was to facilitate behavioural change in the context of energy usage, energy efficiency, Meyer said.

“We wanted to show that it is possible to reduce energy consumption through different designs, different methods and that’s why we are partnering with the universities and the Western Cape and with our local colleagues and the colleagues from Bavaria. The aim is to really get a new behaviour from construction and design to save energy for the future. “

The display of Bavarian competence in a wide range of notable solutions in the energy-optimized construction sector ranging from outstanding architectural projects, innovative technical solutions and building products to integral urban planning concepts will also form part of the Cape Town World Design Capital 2014 Programme.
