IKEA Foundation has designed a prototype of a ready-to-assemble refugee shelter which lasts at least three years. The shed-like structure is made of lightweight polymer panels, laminated with thermal insulation, which clip onto a steel frame. Refugees are normally housed in tents which have a lifespan of six months.
