Sasol employees move into new headquarters

17 November 2016

The relocation of 2 500 of  Sasol’s employees from its 11 commercial properties spread across Johannesburg into the company’s global headquarters, Sasol Place, in Sandton, has started.

Construction of the 67 000 m2, ten-storey development at 50 Katherine street, was overseen by real estate and facilities management consulting company Betapoint.

Construction of the behemoth building, which is in the shape of an ‘S’, started in 2013.

The building comprises seven parking levels and features a restaurant, a coffee shop, a wellness centre, a convenience store, a fitness centre and a dedicated gallery and sculpture garden that will showcase Sasol’s continued support of local contemporary artists through its diverse collection.

Sasol Place has also been awarded a 5-Star Green Star design category rating by the Green Building Council of South Africa.

A range of natural habitats has also been created, with individual indigenous biomes attracting small wildlife, insects and birds, on the external decks, within the grounds, as well as on the rooftop of the building.

Sasol strategic projects senior VP Fay Hoosain said,  “We are proud that, together with our partners, we have created an iconic landmark with approximately 90% of the overall budget channeled back into the South African economy – a significant achievement on such a complex project.”
