Transnet is the largest freight logistics chain in South Africa and the custodian of ports, rail, infrastructure, pipelines and investment. In a recent interview with Transnets’ Group Chief Exectuive, Siyabonga Gama, he shares with us insight into Transnets vision and future projects.

According to Gama “Transnet are diversifying from the South African base focusing on its core compotencies in terms of port, rail and pipeline and leveraging from this to diversify geographically”.

Through its Market Demand Strategy (MDS) Transnet will spend R300 billion on capital projects over a seven-year period. The strategy is aimed at expanding the country’s rails, port and pipeline infrastructure. This will result in an increase in freight volumes and has already created close to 500 000 jobs in the South African economy.

Gama also states that ” We have about R 280 billion of pipeline projects where we expect the South African private sector to work in partnership with us to makes sure capacity is created to optimise the logistics chain in the country”.
