V & A Waterfront goes green with innovative roof top solar panel systems

13 January 2016

Cape Town’s iconic V&A Waterfront goes green with the latest construction of solar panels on eight rooftops of key buildings.

This flagship project was awarded to Sustainable Power Solutions while SolarWorld Africa is the chosen Photovoltaic (PV) module supplier.

SolarWorld solar panels are installed on the roofs of the following key buildings; Watershed, the Breakwater, the Clock Tower, Granger Bay, Two Oceans Aquarium, Ports Edge, West Quay and Portswood House.

The V&A Waterfront’s executive manager of operations Colin Devenish said a few of the reasons they decided to team up with both Sustainable Power Solutions and SolarWorld Africa were the effective prices and excellent quality of their products.

The Western Cape’s MEC for economic opportunities, Alan Winde, said that the leadership shown by the V & A Waterfront towards lowering the carbon footprint and putting energy into the system is crucial for making themselves more self-sustaining and beneficial for future endeavours.

A project of such nature is a step in the right direction to highlight the importance of Cape Town becoming an environmentally friendly city.
